Marathon world record holder Kelvin Kiptum and his coach Gervais Hakizimana died in a road accident on Sunday, Kenyan media reported.
Kenyan Sports Minister Ababu Namwamba said on social media platform X: “Extremely disgusting!! Kenya has lost a special gem. Lost for words.”
Kiptum, 24, set a world record at the Chicago Marathon in October with a time of 2:00:35 to beat compatriot Eliud Kipchoge’s record of 2:01:09 in Berlin in 2022.
