A hawker couple from Singapore had a particularly touching family reunion this Chinese New Year after a surprise visit from their daughter and grandchildren who live in Indonesia.
Their son Teo Jun Jie captured the surprise moment and later uploaded the footage to his TikTok account @teojuju.

A touching meeting
In the video, the couple can be seen cleaning up outside their drinks stall, just before they see their daughter and two grandchildren approaching them.
The surprised grandfather immediately dropped what he was holding to climb down and hug his grandchildren, while the grandmother was seen with a big smile.
Both with tearful eyes hugged their grandchildren.
Seeing her parents’ reaction, Theo’s sister also broke down in tears, apparently moved by the reunion.

Talking to MothershipTheo said they had been planning the surprise since October 2023.
In a text caption for the video, Teo said his parents had probably “given up hope” of seeing their grandchildren this Chinese New Year.
However, after seeing the parents’ reaction, he wrote that “it’s worth waiting.”
“Nothing beats celebrating CNY with the whole family,” he added.
“I am so grateful that we are reunited as a family for CNY. As we get older, we begin to understand that this is what brings true joy,” Theo said. Mothership.
“Especially my parents, they work so hard for us, they never needed us to do anything for them. And to have that little little surprise, knowing that’s all they ever wanted, was enough.”
