Nairobi [Kenya], Feb 12 (ANI): Diksha Dagar shot a 5-under 68 on the final day to finish in the top 20 of the Magical Kenya Ladies Open. Diksha, third on the Women’s European Tour Order of Merit in 2023, shot 71-76-77-68 for an even-par total of 292 to finish 19th.
It was the opening event of the new 2024 season on the Women’s European Tour (LET).
Pranavi Urs, who was eighth after three rounds, shot a 3-over 76 in the final round to finish 23rd, while Vani Kapoor (73) was T-36.
The event produced a surprise winner in the form of 19-year-old Shannon Tan from Singapore, making her LET debut. She beat a strong field by four shots to become the first female professional from Singapore to win on Tour.
Shannon shot 73-70-67-70 for a 12-under total. She beat Alessandra Fanali (8th) by four strokes. Tan shared the third-round lead with Italy’s Alessandra Fanali at 9 under after three rounds. Tan shot a 3-under 70 and Fanali shot a 74.
Starting on the back nine, Deeksha was on fire with five birdies on the back nine of the course. She had another birdie and a bogey on the second nine.
Pranav had an up-and-down day with an eagle, two birdies, five bogeys and a double bogey in her 76 as she slid down the leaderboard to 23rd.
Vani Kapoor had two birds and two bugs.
In 2023, Lin Yeo, former president of the Singapore Ladies Golf Association and founder of the Singapore Ladies Masters and Singapore Junior Development Tour, extended Shannon, then an amateur, a special invitation to the Singapore Ladies. Shannon went on to win the competition, starting an Olympic dream that is now very close for the Texas Tech college dropout to turn pro. Tan earned his ticket to the prestigious LET 2024 after finishing in the top 20 at Q-School Lalla Aicha last December.
It was just her third professional event, and the win gives her a Tour card until the end of 2026. (ANI)
