Morata will be out for several weeks after his club said on Monday (2/12/2024) that the player suffered a knee injury last weekend.
The Spain international suffered a “sprained medial collateral ligament in his right knee” during Atletico’s 1-0 defeat to Sevilla last Sunday in La Liga.
Madrid “Atletico” did not say how long the 31-year-old player was out, but it is known for sure that the player is waiting for more intensive treatment.
But it seems that Morata will not have time to recover before the first leg of the 1/8 finals of the Champions League. The first match of the round of 16 will take place at the Giuseppe Meazza stadium on Wednesday (February 21, 2024).
Alavro Morata is Atletico’s top scorer this season with 19 goals in all competitions, including 13 in La Liga.
He left the field grimacing in pain after a collision with Sevilla’s Boubakari Soumare in first-half stoppage time and was substituted in the second half.
Fourth-placed Atletico will face Inter Milan in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie and Atlético Bilbao in the Copa del Rey semi-finals later this month, AFP reported by Antara.
